No Preview of attached archive in Outlook 2016

Postby woro » Tue Nov 08, 2016 3:49 pm

Hello,

I am using Outlook 2016. (32-bit). The ZIPmagic Outlook AddIn is installed and enabled.

But if I click on an attached ZIP file the message is 'This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it'.

Can you help?

BR, Wolf.

Make sure that you're running the latest version of ZIPmagic, and that the archive type you would like to preview has been associated with ZIPmagic.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you continue to have problems.

Hi,

I am still experiencing the problem. In the meantime

- I have done a complete uninstall, then reboot, and then a fresh installation of zipmagic's new version 16.7
- I have enabled the Preview option within the setup but disabled the Auto Compress Attachments option
- My system is Windows 10 v1607 64-bit (german)
- I am running Outlook 2016 32-bit (german)
- The preview is working within Explorer - *.zip files are associated with zipmagic

AND: There is no zipmagic COM Addin registered in Outlook!

Repair installation did not help.

What can I do?

To be honest, I'm not sure how come it works in File Explorer but not Outlook - when it works in the former, the latter is automatic!

A COM Add-In would not be registered in Outlook, unless you have actually enabled Attachment Compression.

Maybe you can try, for experiment's sake, what happens if you also install Attachment Compression? Do the previews work then?

... I now have done a complete uninstall / fresh installation with the Auto Compression feature enabled. (A maintenance install with adding the feature did not work - COM Addin was not registered within Outlook. Only the Outlook Extension files were copied to the program directory...)

Result: COM Addin was registered. Auto Compression is working - Preview in Windows Explorer working too. But again: Outlook keeps telling me that a preview application for compressed file types is not installed.

This is a pity as the preview functionality was the main reason I bought this tool.

Do you have another idea what I can do?

BR, Wolf.

That's definitely quite odd!

Do you have any third party software on your PC that may be interfering?

Anti-viruses, other preview handlers, perhaps?

...no AV besides Windows Defender. Preview Handlers: Office 2016 integrated and Foxit Phantom PDF.

Suggestion: I will check this out on my second PC next week when I am back at the office. There I have a similar configuration regarding OS and Office 2016. Besides this: I am using a Click-to-Run (C2R) installation (from Office 365). Could this be part of the problem?

Perhaps?

Please let me know what you find on your other system.

Also, it would be great to know where I may download the click to run version, for compatibility testing.
