[Solved] c:\bootmgr is corrupt - unable to fix

Hi, using ZipMagic 16.6, I am unable to recompress because of disk error. I have done chkdsk and fixed all possible problems. I have also done the Check function in ZipMagic --- it keeps reporting that there is 1 error, and trying to fix it stops with "1 error remaining" and lists c:\bootmgr. I have tried in safe mode also.

Is there anyway to get ZipMagic to reboot and check --- like recompress. I suspect that's what I need to do? Or is there some other ways to fix this?

This is a safety measure designed to prevent you from recompressing your disk if there's any issues detected at all.

Have you run chkdsk c: /scan on your disk? Please paste its output here.

Then, run it again, and paste its output again.

Sometimes, Windows fixes disk errors, but they are still present when you do a rescan!

If that is the case, you would need to escalate the issue to Microsoft.

We currently don't offer a way to bypass the disk check for your own safety.

Edit: Sorry for the late reply!

Sorry, that is a long time since I posted. This is on a secondary computer that I don't use enough (and it still works, except the disk is nearly full and I can't recompress).

I have done scandisk and there are no errors. I am running chkdsk separately as you asked (but I think it should be the same). Here is what I get for report:
Chkdsk was executed in scan mode on a volume snapshot.

I would like a fix if possible. If not, can please provide some kind of directions as to where to go? E.g. can I somehow recompress all files to an external hard disk... and then boot from that external hard disk and do the same to the original built-in harddisk?

Thanks.

This issue has now indeed been mitigated in DiskZIP, but not ZIPmagic.

With DiskZIP, you have the option of skipping the disk checking phase.

With ZIPmagic, I'm afraid this option is still unavailable.

Moving forward, we would like to upgrade all our clients to DiskZIP from ZIPmagic.

Therefore, ZIPmagic is receiving critical fixes and security updates only.

DiskZIP is the recipient of new features and benefits, including, in the 2019 release this year:

- Skipping disk checking
- Integrated defragmentation during offline processing

You may uninstall ZIPmagic, reboot, and then install the latest version of DiskZIP to complete your upgrade.
